What can we the artists ACTUALLY do to improve our life, right now and today? It is very simple. TOO simple to be ignored. WE NEED TO STAND UP FOR OURSELVES AND MAKE IT HAPPEN! We need to work together to set a standard for our art. We need to demand a fair share with our prices and art. We need to take the BUSINESS OF ART in our own hands and make those that don't want it NEED it, and those that DO want it PAY for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean really, why do we accept the fact that there are a billion online sites where artists can dump their port. and pray for some exposure? The truth is that there are TOO MANY now. Most are trying to copy this site and fail...so what is the point???????????
THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE WE THE ARTISTS SHOULD DO RIGHT NOW! 1) Get connected with the other. USE THIS SITE AND ONLY THIS SITE FOR YOUR WORK! 2)YOU (Don't wait for others...TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF) should write articles and your thoughts about "How great art is in todays' world and how it can help" send them to my email and I will publish them on a heavily traveled site that has been tackling this problem for years: www.THETATTOOSZINE.com.
3)We need to EDUCATE THE PATRON (the AVERAGE person that does NOT buy Original Art... but will pay $500 to custom frame a $15 print)...and help them understand that ART from a real live artist that they can meet and see, talk to AND IS LOCAL TO THEM is actually a much better investment on their money! But they are only the tip of our accessable iceburg!!!! There are 10 million OTHER people that NEED to buy original art to help us too! These people are those that buy the fine art unlimited prints for $20~$75 or so. They are looking for something pretty for their walls that speaks of them and TO them. They want real art, to look sophisticated and to stand out culturally BUT do not have the money to spend in a gallery! WE can tell them PERSONALLY that they can buy from us directly and get all that AS WELL as a return on their investment if they chose.
4)We need to make sure that the public knows that we run the art world. STICK to your guns and sell your work at the right prices! Raise your prices too! Have a variety of options like unlimited prints, limited edition, AP prints, Gifts and Products, finally Originals. If we ALL work together we can raise the prices of our art so an unlimited print will still go for $200 or more! It is just a matter of cutting out the middle men that peddle our art for us to the rich and take our art to the middle class even the poor and showing them that buying from us direct will help them more than buying from Target or Ikea!!!!!!! WE need to turn this business of art in our favor. It seems that everyone associated with an artist gets rich but not the artist. WE NEED TO SELL DIRECT to the public, no more galleries that take Half! No more dealers that swindle, we basically need to tell those around us that they are being scammed...and so are we; which is killing our COUNTRY!
5) WE need to inform the entire public that ARTISTS are the ones that can help society in the financially shakey times! I mean look at the facts. If we had more money we would be able to pay our bills and mortgage. Banks would get their return and they would NOT have to crash and burn on Wall St. We can stimulate the economy because we spend our money locally. WE can help those that are in need and the entire country if only people could see that buying from a big biz that uses thousands of artists is actually killing us and them because we can deliver a better product for less to people that need it!
You need to realize for yourself that we are in control of our situations. WE are the drivers of our destiny NOT a gallery or middle men because WE can offer much more to the patron than they and still we can walk away with more too! Right? WE do the art, WE have the Creative Minds that they do not, WE are the people that control where our art goes, WE can talk to the public even our neighbors and tell them that they are being trashed by big biz and WE can help them. WE can help them spend wiser, AND help the community that we live in. WE can tell average people that they are spending too much on cell phones, dvd's, clothes, CRAP when they can spend less with US and buy our art and GET MORE FOR THEIR MONEY! WE can tell the public that we are wise to the game and changing the rules.
NO LONGER original art will go for small money...because the simple truth is a $500 original painting will make the SAME money off of only 20 prints sold for just $25! Do you understand?! WE are pushed into a corner because we are poor and need to sell our work BUT we are not working together so that actually happens to us all. HOWEVER, if we stick to our guns and demand a change in this abuse then we can do ONE painting sell Print on Demand prints of that piece only 20 times and make the same money. Keep that print on file and keep selling it forever. You may actually make $10,000 off that one painting AND still own it! **
This is how I see the future if you work with me. I am WILLING TO LEAD I am willing to make this happen for us all. YOU just need to work with me to make it help. Ok, this is the future: We do our own work that we wish. We make prints of them for cheap money, unlimited prints.
Sell them directly to our neighbors. If they want a little more investment return then they have to spend a bit more and we have to make the unlimited prints a bit more special. If we hand sign them or hand color them for instance. Then they still get something special that can be re sold for more than they spent.
We the artists can do this forever off of just a few works of art. Keep painting or whatever your art is and keep them off to the side. When you wish to release another painting do the same options. DO NOT bend to those that say "Oh, but I want an original!" Because an original will NOT sell for the same amount of money as prints...and we lose the original so no more prints.
IF they do want an original that means they are taking away the future profit of the prints so they must pay for that lost income. AND this is to be included in that figure; YOUR families ability to sell your prints for future generations.
So the figure for Original art should be very, very high. If we tell everyone about our work and how great it would be for THEM to buy it, as well as us and the country, then we should be able to cut out the middle men and the way they keep us poor.
NOW get this, if we sell to someone and they have it up in their house they will show friends and family. If the new owner was to promote YOU and the art to them then they might want to buy as well from you. THAT ALONE will create a demad for YOUR art which will drive up the price...which will make the FIRST OWNER that promoted you MORE money because their work of art will actually be re sold for more money since they created the demand for your art.
What will YOU do then? You would have them on your list of favorite contacts so if you do release another painting in the form of prints THEY will be the first to buy it!
MAYbe give them a free upgrade where the print that they buy first is hand signed, colored and numbered with a personal thank you on the back! THAT will make them more grateful to you, and you more money as well as an increased demand for your art. If this is done BY YOU ALL AND NOT JUST ME then we will actually get somewhere.
RIGHT NOW we are all so poor that we will sell an original for $50 just for the cash, and lose ALL future income because we CAN ONLY PRODUCE SO MUCH ORIGINAL ART!
So if there are RICH people that want to invest in art, make YOUR hard work and love turn into more money for them then they should realize that we are not working with them to make them rich... rather we are working with the regular people locally all around us to make US RICH!
Now of course if you work with me then I can also help you sell internationally NOT just locally. Basically I am offering that we work together so that we cut out the middle men that get rich off of our art and the rich that buy it.
I would like to sell our work to the regular people inbetween us and the rich because there are more of them and it will actually give us more money faster! WE THE ARTISTS MAY ACTUALLY BE ABELE TO SHOW THE PUBLIC JUST HOW IMPORTANT WE ARE TO THE WORLD!
