THE POWER OF ART IT CAN HEAL YOU! By DG Wilson
The power of art is incredible. The vision of an artist is unique due to a great deal of factors. We seem to look at the world from the outside. Further we can paint or draw what we see and feel as we look into your lives. That helps the rest of the world understand where it is going and how it got there.
But there is more to art. Art can actually heal you. That is correct. And I don't mean heal instantly like a water stain of Jesus on a wall...it will heal you completely over time. That is what makes it so valuable.
Everyone likes colors because they stimulate the brain. There is more brain wave activity when someone looks at color compared to black and white imagery. Further, action in a painting is felt by those that look upon it. There is no difference mentally to the viewer from looking at someone grab an apple than if they did it themselves. The brain translates the image to personal terms...as if the viewer is doing it.
Also there is a reduction in the mind activity if someone looks at a calm painting and nothing else for extended periods of time. As one views a relaxing image they begin to relax. Relaxation is key to allowing your own body heal itself. Mediation is very valuable, and a painting can induce the same kind of reaction on a subconscious level. If intended, art can actually increase this effect.
Art that has stimulating colors, with soothing patterns that involve a subject people will find healthy will make them feel the same.
Take this concept and apply it to life. If a person is afflicted with depression then happy uplifting art will actually help them, maybe even more so than expensive, dangerous drugs. For example if someone is afflicted with an eating disorder, they too will be helped with specific imagery, colors and textures. Anger, abuse issues, psychosis, and much more can be helped with the right paintings.
This concept to the power of art is also applicable to children. If kids have art about them like a mural in their rooms or art on their walls they will develop more brain cells and the connections to them at a faster rate than other children not exposed. These cells will enable them to have greater success in life because they will be smarter, and more creative than their classmates. It has nothing to do with the teacher or parent.
Photographs also have this power. We see an image and relate to it on personal terms. The images that are shown to us have a great power over us. Images of suffering and pain make us feel the same. That is the importance of Journalism Photography. If we do not see the suffering in other countries we may not want to stop it. It is important to monitor what you see if you wish to be healed by photography because photos capture situations instantly. Photography is used as a means of communicating real reactions and situations for us to document. After the instant they are gone. A painting is more about the emotion behind the imagery, not just the imagery. There is a great deal of personal translation by the painter of their subject that goes through more of a process than a photograph.
That is why there is a difference in photography compared to paintings or drawings. The brush strokes and subtly of color, even the process of application to surface from an artists' hand in their work is not lost on the viewer. There is more reaction and interaction between viewer and painting than to photos. This is because the mind sees and thinks in images that are photographic. Art increases the emotional process because there is more to analyze.
Images and the impressions they leave in terms of art does not apply to television or movie images unless they are frozen in a photograph. This is because we are not allowing the processing time necessary to reduce our brain waves. We still relate to the subject, the people the scenes and more but there is not a healing factor.
With this in mind art from an artist is actually very important to our daily lives. It will help us heal, help our children grow smarter and more creative, as well as stimulate our impression of ourselves from another's perspective.
To achieve greater health for less money that does not give you side effects I suggest you look into buying art. Original art is expensive because it is the only one of its' kind. Prints of art can be very cheap and still offer you a great deal of healing power. There is some loss of expression and mental stimulation with some prints but there is far more in it compared to a prescription bottle the Doctor may be paid to try out on you.
Original paintings are still a viable way to achieve lasting health without going broke. Local artists around you are often willing to "let go" of their work if someone really understands the power and appreciates the work. If you value it as much if not more than the artist they will probably give it to you at a price you can afford. Maybe you can strike a professional deal, barter with them and help them achieve more sales for instance.
So keep all this in mind as you flip through a catalog, watch television or a DVD. The images that we fill our bodies with make us react to them. Healing images equals good reactions. Others may actually cause harm. Prints of art hung in your home will help you far more. Buying prints direct from local artists helps you both.
